PHD Centre calls for peace messages in celebrating 2020 INTERNATIONAL DAY OF PEACE.

The International Day of Peace was established in 1981 by the UN General Assembly (A/RES/36/67) to commemorate and strengthen the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples. Two decades later, in 2001, the General Assembly unanimously voted (A/RES/55/282) to designate the Day as a period of non-violence and cease-fire.

The Executive Director of PHD Centre Mr. Ayo Olowoyeye said, at PHD Center, this is our core interest. To promote the ideals of peace locally with our concept of Peace. Peace is local and we are a local organization doing our bit locally.

Just as the United Nations invites all nations and people to honour a cessation of hostilities during the Day, and to otherwise commemorate the Day through education and public awareness on issues related to peace, we equally call on you to join us.

The International Day of Peace 2020 will be held on the theme “Shaping Peace Together.” To celebrate the day, the world is invited to: spread compassion, kindness and hope in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic; and stand together against attempts to use the virus to promote discrimination or hatred.

He used the opportunity to call on Nigerians to join the centre to celebrate this year's World Peace Day as scheduled below:

PHD Center request that interested individual should kindly send a message of about 140 characters showing your stand against any attempt to use the present pandemic to promote discrimination or hatred as well as your compassion, kindness and hope in the face of the current COVID-19 pandemic.

The ED said all messages will be collated and published on the center's social media handles and website on Monday 21st September, 2020
